I don’t know about y’all, but I love a good Christmas scent. You know when your house fills up with such good smells that you’re just like “ahhh, Christmas!”?? That’s what I’m talking about.
And I finally managed to capture that scent in a stovetop simmer potpourri. This isn’t your mom and grandma’s potpourri from the 1990’s, either. Its filled with fresh Christmas goodness.
What you’ll need:
- 4-5 fresh oranges
- 2-3 cups of fresh cranberries
- 2-3 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- a pinch of ground clove (optional)
- a dutch oven or large pot
You can either peel and break apart or slice your oranges. I did a mix of both because the slices look nicer, but I think the peels give off more aroma. Add them to your dutch oven or pot. Have it already sitting on your stove to make this easier! Add in the cranberries and cinnamon sticks.
Then, add water to your pot. I filled up two large mason jars and poured those in. Add vanilla and pinch of clove, if desired. Mix everything up gently. Turn the eye that your pot is sitting on to low or simmer.
That’s it! So easy, right? Every once in awhile I will go check on it and add more water if needed or give it a little stir. This weekend we spent a whole day at home, and I let our’s simmer all day. The whole house smelled like Christmas spirit! If you leave your house, obviously do not leave this simmering on your stove! Turn it off.
This recipe is very easy to tweak as well. If you want more of one scent, just add more of that ingredient. Its pretty difficult to mess up!
So do y’all already have a similar Christmas stovetop simmer potpourri that you do or is this new for ya? Also, if you try this out, I’d love to hear from you!
