The January doldrums. Y’all know what I’m talking about. January rolls around and the Christmas decorations come down. Suddenly, your house seems empty without the warmth and glow of twinkle lights. Then winter really slaps you in the face and everything just seems…blah. I know I’m not alone!
This year I was determined to fight said doldrums by keeping our winter decor nice and cozy. With a few simple changes, we have a cozy winter bedroom, and I am loving it!
For starters, I took out all of the red that we had in our Christmas bedroom. This gave me a nice neutral backdrop to work with. I brought in the green velvet pillows from our living room and topped them with a lumbar pillow from Target. It was a clearance find and I like the back better than the front, so until I make a cover for it I just turn it backwards!
My plaid obsession is still going strong. That’s perfect for winter though, right?! This navy and green blanket scarf pulls double duty as a cozy throw at the foot of our bed. I love the color and texture it brings in when layered over our buffalo check duvet.
Have y’all heard of hygge? Its a Danish term that loosely translates to coziness and its taking the US by storm. Look it up if you aren’t familiar. You won’t regret it. Its basically about embracing the little things in life that make you happy and shutting out stressors. Sounds like a great idea, if you ask me. I wanted to include a little extra hygge to our room so I brought in a few of my current favorite things (besides plaid!) to round out our cozy winter bedroom.
One of my goals for the new year is to also declutter and simplify our home. I started simplifying our bedroom while giving it this refresh, and man, is it amazing. It lets the little details of the room shine.
So what do y’all think? Do you love the simple and cozy feel as much as I do? It was so easy to accomplish and didn’t cost me a dime. Now that’s my favorite kind of room refresh.
