Try saying that 10 times fast!
I know there are tons of Pottery Barn pillow knockoffs out there, but I just couldn’t help but create one myself! I love to paint. Its such a therapeutic outlet for me, but with a small toddler in the house, I don’t get to do it very much.
I decided to try my hand at painting a pillow, though, after I saw some plain linen pillow covers at Hobby Lobby. They were $4.99 originally, but were half off the week I went so I picked up a couple. I was really craving a few more Fall touches for our house and thought a nice little pumpkin pillow would do the trick!
I got some of Martha Stewart’s fabric medium to mix with my acrylic paints because I wanted to be able to wash this bad boy if needed. Which, with a rambunctious toddler, it usually is needed. From there, I freehanded a plump pumpkin onto a plain piece of drawing paper, but it out and traced that onto the pillow with an orange coloring pencil. Then, I went to town with my paints. (Be sure to put a few pieces of paper inside the pillow cover while painting to prevent bleed through.) I kept adding and layering colors till I was happy with the results. The wonderful thing about paint is its hard to go wrong! If you don’t like something, just wait till its dry and paint over it. Once it had dried for 24 hours, I heat set it with an iron, per the fabric medium’s instructions, and now it should be good to go!
The really exciting part is that I’m listing it in my Etsy shop for sale! Since I had Ava, I’ve completely neglected my shop, but I’m hoping to slowly change that. I’ll let y’all know once its officially listed!
Anyhoo, this sweet little pumpkin (or “monats” as Ava calls them) brightens up our living room and brings just the right amount of Fall in to complement the other seasonal decor we have. Do you change your pillows out for the seasons? This is the first year I’ve done it, but I’m loving how festive it makes our house! Let me know what you think and Pin away if you love something!!
