I’m so excited to be linking up with some talented bloggers to show y’all how we all use vintage pieces with modern decor in our homes!
From an early age, I can remember having a love for old things. Old houses, old doors, old furniture, you name it. I can mostly thank my parents for that. We always had vintage pieces around our house. So it was only natural that when I had my own home to decorate, I gravitated towards mixing vintage pieces with modern decor.
One of the other things I love about using vintage pieces and antiques is the history they carry. My great grandparents’ dining set now sits in our dining room underneath a $40 chandelier from Lowe’s. That’s the same table that my dad, uncles and their cousins grew up gathering around. Now we get to do the same, although its usually covered in Play-Doh and Barbies.
An antique dresser found a new life in our home as a console at first. Now it serves as a buffet in our dining room. It actually still houses all of our DVD’s and crafting supplies. Its flanked by some of my antique plate collection and a new, but antique inspired, metal sign.
A second antique dresser serves as extra storage in our living room as well. Over it hangs a chippy old window I found at a flea market. My favorite items to decorate it with are my vintage scale and an antique mirror with the most amazing patina, mixed in with greenery from Ikea, a cloche from Hobby Lobby and a small ceramic bird from Michael’s.
An old Hoosier cabinet that we saved acts as a pantry for canned goods in our kitchen and also houses our board game collection. Its also the perfect spot for my cookbook collection which I keep corralled in a vintage metal basket. A stand from Hobby Lobby acts as the perfect resting place for my grandmother’s cookbook from the 1940’s.
All in all, I love the feeling of a home that includes vintage pieces. They have such amazing stories to tell. Through them, you can curate and tell your own story all while giving a new life to pieces that have already been loved and cherished. Sprinkle antiques in with your favorite items from your favorite stores and I think that you’ll find just how much you love them, too!
