The folks at Home Reserve, Lamps Plus and Soft Surroundings were kind enough to provide us with some free product for this makeover. As always, I only promote brands and products I truly love. You can see my full disclosure here.
Well, y’all, I’ve worked my little tooshie off putting together our traditional, farmhouse living room in this little rental of ours, and I’m happy to report that its turned out even better than I could have imagined. I’ve been walking a fine line between wanting this place to feel homey and not wanting to amass tons of stuff that we are going to have to move.
At first, the thought of starting from scratch was terrifying. What do I pick? What if I pick things that I get tired of quickly? Is it too trendy? Do I want it just because we don’t have anything else?? All things that ran through my head every. single. time. I went into a store. It was paralyzing.
Finally, I made a few purchases, things started falling into place and my trepidation eased. So without further ado, here’s what the space looked like before…
The inspiration for this room came from that vintage landscape. I snagged it for 99 cents at Goodwill a week or two after the fire. It was just too good of a deal to pass up! I loved the farmhouse, yet traditional feel and warm colors.
Our sectional is from Home Reserve, and I honestly cannot say enough good things about it. We have the Tux style in Cantina Saddle, which is a faux leather. Their furniture is completely customizable and modular – it even has storage under the seats!
The next key piece was lighting. The living room and bedrooms in the rental don’t have overhead lights and felt so dark with only the one lamp that came with our rental furniture. Enter the Gifford Swing Arm wall lamps from Lamps Plus! I love the classic styling, dark finish and functionality. They’re even dimmable, which is so handy.
We also received the Jensen Aged Brass Pharmacy Floor Lamp. Talk about love at first site! Its a beauty and works perfectly behind our new wingback chair.
I had scoped out the Tristan Chair from Soft Surroundings several months ago and fell hard. I was looking for something completely slipcovered because #kids, but with a traditional shape and farmhouse details to replace the large chair floral chair we had by the fireplace. That was a difficult list to check of but this beauty managed it! Fast forward several months and I finally ordered it shortly after we got settled into our rental.
The people at Soft Surroundings were kind enough to also send the matching ottoman and several other pieces to help us finish up the living room. The Taverna Bench is functioning as our coffee table and the St. Moritz Faux Fur Throw is currently the blanket everyone fights over because it is so dang soft.
So what do y’all think? Did I nail the look I was going for?
We are really happy with how its turned out! It was fine and functional before, but there’s just something about putting your own stamp on a place to really make it feel like home.
