I am so excited to be sharing the last room of our home decked out for the holidays today! I’m joining up with a few talented blogging friends for the ‘Tis the Season blog hop hosted by Barb of The Everyday Home. If you’re stopping by from Confessions of a Plate Addict, welcome! I’m loving Debbie’s Scandinavian Christmas decor this year! Now, come on into our nostalgic Christmas dining room.

If I’m being honest, this was not the theme I originally had in mind for this room. The rest of our house is cozy and Christmas-y and Ava’s room is girly and festive. I imagined a cozy yet elegant dining room with rustic touches and white twinkle lights everywhere. Sounds pretty, right? Then my husband and three year old convinced me that we needed vintage colored lights on at least one of our trees. And so our nostalgic Christmas dining room was born.
For the first time ever, I didn’t put our family ornaments on our main tree in favor of doing a more themed look in the living room. So along with round vintage colored lights, the dining room tree houses all of the various ornaments that our little family of four has collected over the years.
My parents even gave me some of my childhood ornaments when I got married. My husband and I also started a tradition of giving each other an ornament every Christmas. Ava helped my put every single ornament on and thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. This tree is full of memories.
While perusing Target one day, I happened upon these darling melamine plates.
They seemed to coordinate with the vintage vibe of the colored lights so I snagged four. Plus, my kiddo can actually use these without me worrying about one getting broken. Major mom win!
The centerpiece was the quickest, cheapest and easiest DIY I think I’ve ever done.
I wanted the whole room to be whimsical (I mean just look at that tree) and kid friendly. It brings to mind Christmases of the past and makes me look forward to all of the Christmases in the future.
Its not quite the elegant space that I was dreaming up, but it makes my family happy. And that makes me so incredibly happy, too.
The next stop for today is Beth of Unskinny Boppy. Her home is one of my favorites, and I know you will love it, too! Don’t forget to check out all of the bloggers linked below. Such amazing Christmas inspiration!
