However, this is the first year I’ve added in patriotic decor and it was way easier than I imagined. While perusing the Target dollar spot a few weeks ago, I fell in love with these adorable white Christmas houses. I decided to hold out on buying them until I had my husband drag all of the Christmas stuff out and assessed my current decor situation. Of course, when I went back to pick some up they were sold out…. at both of the Targets near me. I was so sad! Then I thought, “Hey, I can DIY that”. So that’s what I did and it was easy peasy.
I know, I know. Christmas decor before Thanksgiving? Gasp! I couldn’t help myself though. After October 31st, my inner Buddy the Elf kicked in and I had to decorate something.
Enter our ho hum master. Its made a lot of headway since we moved in, but it always get pushed way down on our to do list in favor of bigger impact projects. It was time for our bedroom to get a little love. I knew that I could create a cozy Christmas bedroom for us with a few simple changes.
So, am I the only one who cannot believe it is November already?! While I love October, I am so excited for the next couple of months and all of the goodness that comes with them… mainly, holidays! Today is all about the rest of our living room. This is where we spend the majority of our time, so I wanted it to be fun without being overwhelming or competing with our fireplace. As I said in my first post, “less is more” was the key to keeping things themed and not cheesy. I also stuck to the same neutral color palette with pops of black and orange that I used in the other areas.
If you know me well, you know I love Harry Potter. So when it came to decorating our home for Halloween, I knew a Harry Potter theme was the way to go!
I went the lazy girl route and focused on a few areas of our house, mainly repurposing and reusing things we already had on hand. I also wanted it to still be Halloween-y and not over the top cheesy so less was really more. First up is our fireplace and builtin bookshelves.

While I love the neutral Fall decor trend as much as the next girl, something about rich warm colors, lots of layered textures and natural element just scream “Autumn” too me. These were the things that I focused on while creating my own Fall tablescape.
